Ok, I’ll be honest, 0ne of the perks of being an event photographer is experiencing great performance for free. Last Saturday, 5 February 2011, I was fortunate enough to cover Baliktanaw: A benefit concert for the construction of the rectory of St. James the Greater Parish in Panganiban, Catanduanes at the Philamlife Auditorium.

If you still don’t know them,  ”A Cappella Manila (ACM) is one of the Philippines’ most respected choral groups today.” That’s a very big claim, but after hearing them perform, they’ve earned my respect, too.

They have done several European tours already, and “started its outreach program called Lakbay-Handog-Awit. In this outreach program the A Cappella Manila performs in various churches in the country for free!”

You can learn more about them from their website, http://acappellamanila.com/

Here are the photos before the concert: Continue reading »

My wife and I have a new favorite Italian Restaurant: Bistro Ravioli. The food tastes just right without too much oil. The prices are affordable given that the pasta are handmade, and the servings are good enough to satisfy a 106kg guy like me.   I’m no food blogger, but I am a photographer and here are the photos of the delicious food!

My college friend Miyo Sia and I wanted to collaborate on a photoshoot. Problem was, we didn’t have any subjects/models. Good thing her sister’s KPOP cover band/group 13seouls were more than willing victims models. The following are photos from that shoot.

Note: This is only part one, since they are 13 boys in the group and we only got to shoot six. Part two will be up by the end of January.

And here are the singles:

demolition047As I was about to go out and visit my uncle in the hospital, I got a text message from my wife that there’s a commotion outside the place we lived. It was causing traffic to stop. Being a media person, I grabbed my camera and headed to the scene. There were people on the overpass bridge at the foot of the Floodway bridge and traffic was being diverted to one lane. There were a lot of police and LGU security officers. I saw an ambulance and a lot of men dressed like construction workers: it turns out they’re the demolition crew. I arrived at the location only minutes after the residents fought off the advancing demolition team.

The location was supposedly a private property behind a construction site for the new Puregold Supermarket. The illegal settlers/residents have been there for at least 2o years. They are claiming that the demolition was illegal since they have a pending case regarding their right to stay there. They said that the demolition team didn’t have a court order stating they should be removed from that area. That’s why they fought back the earlier attempt to demolish their houses.
